On Feb 14, 2010 at 2:15P Lynn Penner said I'd rate this hotel/condo average. Location is right in Lihue with good touristy restaurants and shopping within walking distance. The park/beach across the street isn't good -- some very shady people there. But the very-nice Marriott beach access is just across the street as well, if you like a very calm bay. Units were fine, but could use some real TLC. They were not as clean as they should be -- really need to treat the moldy grout in the bathroom. Curtains were very shabby, and AC units were on a 6-hour timer, which doesn't last through the night. You have to wake up and restart it. We stayed first in a time-share unit, then a hotel rental unit, and both had problems. Also, the beds in the hotel unit were probably the most uncomfortable, squeaky things I've ever slept in. The "resort" is a LOT of units and parking lots, no real views from terraces to give you the nice restful, Hawaii feel. The few green areas are well-kept, and the pool and grill areas are clean and well-equipped. Our once every four days cleaning service did not show up, so we had to contact them and they were a day late. Another issue is that there is not a smoke detector in the unit, nor is there any sprinkler system. Isn't there a code in Hawaii for that? The front desk help was very helpful and accommodating. Overall, it was OK, but nothing like the resorts in Poipu -- but then, I'm sure it was less expensive, too!
