Resort Fees at Hawaii Hotels
About 15 of Hawaii's hotels--mainly higher end resorts--charge mandatory daily "Resort Fees" that are added to your bill upon checkout. These fees can cause "checkout sticker shock" if you don't include them in your trip cost calculations, so we've included a handy compendium below of which Hawaii resorts charge Resort Fees, how much they charge, and what you get in return.

Here at Travel Hawaii, we're not big fans of Resort Fees because we want to be able to sell our clients fully prepaid Hawaii hotel stays. Finding out at checkout that a hotel charges a hefty Resort Fee could certainly irk some travelers. So to help you make informed buying decisions, all of our hotel web pages specify when a hotel has a Resort Fee, how much it is, and what you get in return.

On the other hand, many Resort Fees appear to provide great value--as long as what they provide is something you'd normally use. Check out the table below. The variety of things you receive in exchange for paying your Resort Fee can be quite impressive.

Okay. so if I don't have a car, don't use fitness facilities, don't use the pool, can I deduct the fees from total hotel bill? Yeah right....what a scam!

I agree. Resort fees are a total bait and switch and should be illegal. Mandatory fees should be included in the room price.

I think its terrible to have a mandatory fee. Why not include as part of hotel stay? Feels like you are trying to trick tourists. What's new? Stayed at marriott wailea. If you valet, they charge you 25 resort fee and 25 for parking..that's crazy. Feel cheated!!

What you do not include in this list is whether these resort fees are PER ROOM or PER PERSON. Often they are per person, which leads to even greater checkout sticker shock. These services that you get for the resort fee are are things the hotel provides anyway, and they just list them as being what the fee covers in a lame attempt to justify the fee. If the fees are mandatory, any sane person would just say they should be included in the room rate, but the hotels just want to make their rates look lower than they really are.
