The Alii Tower and Lagoon Tower have been remodeled and the guest rooms refurbished. As a result the resort has regained its vigor and is now the cream of hotels in Kailua-Kona town.

We spent five nights at the Royal Kona, and we enjoyed the facilities very much. We had a very large room and wrap-around lanai. There were very comfortable spaces to enjoy throughout the hotel; large and expansive. The front desk staff were especially friendly and helpful. On the down side, we enjoy in-room dining, which was not available. We found the house-keeping arrangements slow and cumbersome. They often would not have the room ready until late in the afternoon, which conflicted with other plans, etc. Especially disappointing was the Mai Tai bar. We were provide coupons, but never could use them. The Mai Tai bar is very comfortable, waterfront, and the menu looked good, but we could never get served. On three occasions we waited and waited, asked for help, and ended up leaving. Staff were not busy, never made eye contact, no greetings, nothing. It was very strange. Each time we went next door to Huggos / On the Rocks, and received fabulous service and food. While overall I believe it was good value, I'd look around at other options before returning to Royal Kona.

We just spent a week at the Royal Kona Hotel (12/25/10-1/1/22). We had a wonderful corner king room. We have stayed at this hotel in the past. Staff was friendly and helpful. We liked the fact that it is centrally located and we could walk to town. There was one drawback. We ate at the hotel restaurant and had a horrible meal. The mahi-mahi was raw and we weren't offered any compensation except for another choice on the menu. Once you have had a bad meal, you really don't want more to eat. I would definitely go back to the hotel but not to the restaurant.

We were offered a special deal upgrade and had an incredible view and lovely room. Will definitely stay here again.

My wife and I spent five days at this hotel and enjoyed the facilities as well as the professionalism of the staff. The beach area is small and is likely won't be up to snuff for teenagers. The bar area and chairs that are set up throughout the main floor are great. You can sit down, have a drink or read a book with a great view of the ocean. We had a corner king room. The balcony was fantastic -- huge. The room wasn't particularly big, but it was comforable and had nice views. Everything was clean and the staff was helpful. Lots of shopping is within walking distance, as are restaurants. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and I plan on staying there again.

We just came back from a wonderful vacation in Kona. I travelled with my two little girls and we had such a great time. The kiddie pool is small but sufficient. It would have been better it there was a slide or if it were bigger. The staff was great. Anna at the front desk was always helpful. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. Priced reasonably, clean and some areas are being renovated. Also, the engineering staff changed the a/c filter on the day we checked in which was nice as I have bad allergies to dust. Will definitely come back again. Mahalo!

Royal Kona Resort Reviews image Our Sales Manager Chris Says ...    The Palms at Wailea Maui by Outrigger has completed a remodeling and room renovation in 2 of their 3 towers - the Alii and Lagoon Tower. With its convenient location to shops and restaurants and newly refurbished rooms I can definitely say this is the hotel you want to stay at for those who want to be in the heart of Kailua-Kona town. The Bay Tower is still open with reduced rates but "trust me", you would rather be in one of the renovated towers. The Corner King Room category features large wrap around balconies and spectacular ocean views. Very impressive!
Our Agent Kelsey Says ...    The Palms at Wailea Maui by Outrigger, located just 7 miles from the Kona Airport, is within easy walking distance to area restaurants, shops and galleries. They just renovated 2 of their 3 towers, including the lobby, bar and guest rooms. I was impressed with the newly decorated rooms. Especially impressive were the 2 Royal Junior Suites which have a separate living area and wrap around balconies. These units offer the best ocean front views! They also offer Ocean Front King rooms which are regular size hotel rooms but still have the wrap around balcony. A unique feature of the property is their private salt water swimming lagoon which is open only to hotel guests. It is very small - with a small sandy beach but it appears very safe and good for kids. Overall, a great hotel in a great location. Royal Kona Resort Reviews image
