- Prepay & Pay Later Reservations:
Some car reservation require pre-payment and others allow you to pay at the counter.
--> If your car reservations says "Prepay" you must pay the full amount in advance or it will automatically cancel.
--> If your car reservation says "Pay Later" you pay at the rental car counter on the day you pick up your car. - Vouchers:
--> Prepay car reservations do not require a voucher. Simply present yourself at the rental car company with your confirmation number found on your Travel Hawaii itinerary.
--> For Pay Later car reservations, you will receive a confirmation email that contains a link where you can print out a voucher. Note that a voucher is NOT necessary for picking up your car, but it is ADVISED as a way to make sure there is no confusion at the rental car counter regarding your reservation. Please do not contact Travel Hawaii for a voucher as the link in your confirmation email is the only way to get one - 24 Hour Rate Period:
Rates are based on a 24 hour period. For example, if you pick up your car at 2PM on Tuesday and return it at 4PM on Wednesday, that would be considered a 2-day rental because you have the car for over 24 hours. - Unlimited Mileage:
All car rentals offered by Travel Hawaii provide unlimited mileage. - Taxes, Fees and Insurance:
Rental car prices have a "base" rate, which is the price of the rental car, and then a charge for State Taxes and Fees.
NOT INCLUDED in any of our rates are the optional Collision Damage Waivers and other optional insurances and waivers which you may select at the rental car counter in Hawaii, additional driver fees, underage driver fees, and any additional charges for child seats, GPS navigation systems, etc., which you may request on the booking form. These will incur additional fees which you pay directly to the car rental company.
- Insurance:
Prices DO NOT include the car rental protection plans (insurance). These plans are OPTIONAL and purchase is NOT REQUIRED. You may purchase insurance from the car rental companies directly when you pick up your car. - Changes and Cancellations for Prepay Reservations:
--> If you want to make modifications BEFORE your rental has started, go online to Travel-Hawaii.com , look up your reservation and hit the button titled "Modify This Reservation". [NOTE that rental car companies do not allow changing the last name of the driver, but the first name can be changed.] There is no charge to make modifications, but there may be a price difference depending on your dates, etc.
--> If you need to extend your reservation AFTER your rental has begun, or if you have a mechanical or other problem with your vehicle, you need to go directly to the rental car company as we lose control of your reservation once you have picked up your car.
--> If you completely cancel your car reservation after paying but before your pickup date there is a 10% cancel penalty. To cancel your reservation, go online to Travel-Hawaii.com , look up your reservation and hit the button titled "Cancel This Reservation".
--> If you fail to pickup your car, or cancel on or after your pickup date, the entire prepaid amount will be forfeited.
--> Once you pickup your car, there are no refunds should you return your car early or otherwise not use your entire reservation.
- Changes and Cancellations for Pay Later Reservations:
--> To change or cancel a Pay Later reservation visit this page: https://customer.cartrawler.com . Here you can enter the reservation number provided at the time of booking and the email address associated with the reservation to change the booking. Please do not contact Travel Hawaii to change or cancel a Pay Later reservation.
--> In addition, once you make a booking you will receive an email that contains a link where you can make changes to your reservation.
--> There are no penalties for changing a Pay Later reservation, but your rate may change depending on the changes you make to car category, dates and times, etc. - Driver's License:
Driver must have a valid driver's license. None-USA drivers must present a valid, unexpired Driver's License from their home country. If this Driver's License is not in English, a current International Driver's License is required in addition to the national Driver's License. - Minimum Age:
Minimum age of driver is 20 or 21 for car rentals in Hawaii, depending on the car company. If the driver is between 20 and 24, an underage surcharge will apply ranging from $19 to $35/day, depending on the car company and the vehicle category. The underage surcharge is payable directly to the car company upon your rental. - Drop Charges: If you pick up your car at one location and return it to another location, you may be charged a drop-off fee. This fee varies by company and location. Please ask at the counter.
- Maximum Passengers:
Hawaii Law requires all passengers in a vehicle must have a seat belt to use. Maximum passengers is the number of seats and thus seat belts in the car. This is listed in the car description when booking. - Child Seats Required:
Hawaii State Law requires the use of seatbelts and child restraint seats. Seatbelts and child restraint seats can save lives. We urge you to use them. To avoid serious injury or even death, use child restraint seats only in the back seat of the vehicle. Older children who do not use child restraint seats should ride properly buckled-up in the back seat. Infant seats, toddler seats and booster seats can be requested at time of reservation, or you can request seats at the rental counter. Additional charges will apply. - Lanai Rentals:
Car rentals are not available on Lanai. The two main hotels there have a shuttle that goes between the two hotels, the airport, and other locations on Lanai. A fee is charged for the shuttle. - Discounts:
Prepay car rentals do not have AAA, AARP, military, or senior discounts. However, if you are a current AAA member, you may be able to get free or discounted fees on child seats, additional drivers, and underage drivers.
- Driver must have a valid major credit card or debit card. If you choose to present a debit card at the counter, please note the many restricitons on debit card use, which are as follows:
- A credit check will be performed to determine your credit worthiness, and you can be denied your rental if the credit check is not to the rental car company's standards;
- You will be required to provide proof of a return airline flight to coincide with the rental;
- You must present two (2) valid forms of identification, one being your driver's license and the other being one of the following: passport; major credit card in the same name as on the driver's licence; US Military ID; store member card (Costco, Sam’s, etc.) with photo; a company ID badge with photo; current month Utility statement in the renter’s name and the same address as on the driver’s license (e.g., gas, electric, cable bill);
- Debit cards can only be used for standard car classes of Economy, Compact, Midsize, Standard, and Fullsize. A Credit Card will be required for vehicle upgrades above a Fullsize car class.
- Debit cards are accepted for payment at the END of the rental;
- If you are a member of the Hertz, Dollar or Thrifty loyalty programs , you can use a Debit Card if it is already included in your renter's loyalty profile, regardless of vehicle type;
At the time of rental, an authorization hold will be secured on the credit/debit card provided, to cover the estimated rental charges and any additional charges that may be incurred. These funds will not be available for your use. The rental car company may place an authorization amount of up to US$ 200.00 for credit card and US$ 500.00 for debit card, plus the estimated charges on a customer's card, given certain conditions that will be outlined at time of rental. - Dropoff Fee:
If you pick up your car at one location and drop it at another, a drop fee of $75 or more will apply. Drop off charges are paid directly to the rental car company upon the completion of your rental. - Additional Drivers:
There may be an additional charge if you add on one or more additional drivers. Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty charge $13.50/day for additional drivers (including spouses) with a maximum of $189 per rental. This charge is paid directly to the rental car company at the counter. If you are a current AAA member and renting from Hertz, Dollar, or Thrifty, there is no charge for an Additional Driver who is also an AAA member (subject to change by the rental car companies at any time). - Underage Drivers:
For Hertz/Dollar/Thrifty, the minimum driver age is 20. Drivers between 20 and 24 are subject to a $19/day Young Driver Fee for Hertz rentals and $29/day for Dollar & Thrifty rentals. For Hertz, if you are a current AAA member, the Young Driver Fee is waived (subject to change at any time by Hertz). - Additional Charges apply to the following: Overtime, Gas, Protection Coverage, Upgrades, Infant, Toddler and Booster Seats ($13.99/day, $98 maximum each per rental), and GPS and Wi-Fi ($16.99/day). All of these fees are paid directly to the rental car company at the rental counter. If you are a current AAA member and renting from Hertz, Dollar, or Thrifty, you can get a free child safety seat (subject to change by the rental car companies at any time; also subject to availability).
- All Terms and Conditions for rental cars are subject to change without notice at the car rental companies' discretion.
