The Truth about Free Breakfasts at Hawaii Hotels

Maybe there's no such thing as a free breakfast.

Many of our guests inquire if they can get breakfast included for their stays at Hawaii hotels. The answer is, for most hotels, yes, of course.

But is that breakfast really "free"?

We have a saying here at Travel Hawaii :

There's no such thing as a free breakfast!

The truth is that, in nearly every instance, rates that include breakfast are significantly higher than those without. Usually, the difference in price is just about equal to what you'd pay for breakfast at the hotel if you bought it each day of your stay. What a surprise!

Of course, it is certainly convenient to know that your breakfast is included each day. But consider some reasons that it might be better to go with the cheaper rate and buy breakfast at the hotel only on days of your choosing:

You may not want to eat a big breakfast every day. Because it's "included" may mean that you feel you "gotta go" so you can get your money's worth.
You may not want to eat at the same restaurant each morning. Waikiki and other tourist centers in Hawaii have MANY restaurants, both independent and located in hotels. So not having breakfast included frees you up to explore other options.
What if you oversleep and you miss the breakfast hours? Money lost!
What if you have an early outing or activity and you need to leave the hotel before breakfast hours?
What if you just want to have a cup of coffee and a banana for breakfast?
